Greg Barnett aka @gbobarnett is a top-flight NFL agent with 15 years of experience. Some of the current players that he represents are Justin Houston, Reshad Jones, and Pro-bowler Kyler Fuller. He also co-represents this year’s #4 draft pick Clelin Ferrell and former Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston.

Where he is today would have been thought to be impossible by many of his former high school teachers. Growing up, he was classified with an IEP and placed in special education (a system that his mother called a dumping ground for black kids). It has been proven that a disproportionate number of black and Latino students are placed in special education vs other ethnic groups. The effects can last a lifetime.

The emotional embarrassment and lower educational standards lead many who are placed in special education into limited options as adults. Greg was told by his teachers that he would be lucky if he made it to Junior College.

His journey has taken him far beyond that. In 2015, he helped negotiate the largest contract for a linebacker in NFL history at that time for Justin Houston. The contract was for $101,000,000 with $52,000,000 of it guaranteed.

Greg is living testimony that people’s views of you are only their thoughts, not your final destination.

In episode 47, he walked us through his journey, explained NFL contract negotiations and what college athletes go through. We also discussed the business of AAU basketball, and the advantages of HBCUs.

EYL 47 will be out today at 5 pm est
